Mary Lee Vaughan Barnes, 65, of Rocky Mount, and formerly of Roanoke Rapids, died Friday, December 30, 2011.

Mary was a native of Halifax County, the daughter of the late Franklin Mason Vaughan and Frances Nethery Vaughan. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Carol ''Bud'' Barnes.

She is survived by two daughters, Wendy Moody and her husband, Bill, and Shelly Stone and her husband, Timothy, all of Rocky Mount; her son, John Barnes and his wife, Lynn, of Roanoke Rapids; and three grandchildren, Eric Irby, William Moody and Jeremy Moody.

Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends on Sunday, January 1, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, January 2, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Claude Williams officiating.
